STATE SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

The State Summer Youth Employment Program enables non-profit and governmental agencies to hire economically disadvantaged youth between the ages of 14 and 20 for the months of June, July and August through funds appropriated by the state legislature.  The funded agencies recruit and hire all youth.  All youth participants in the program may work no more than 240 hours for the length of the program.

For eligibility purposes, when applying with a participating agency, all youth must be prepared to provide the agency with proof of their social security number, proof of age/birth, proof of citizenship or eligibility to work and proof of the family income.  As required by the State of Delaware's child labor laws, all youth participants 17 years old and younger must obtain working permits.  73% of all youth participants must have a family income at or below 200% of the poverty level.
